Talent is everywhere- you just have to look closely. Artists, writers, actors, and a myriad of other professions depend on the creative skill of people, and I'm always enamored with individuals, especially young ones, who express such a knack for art and culture.

I had the opportunity to chat with one such person who is truly gifted in the way of art. Morgan Patton had been involved in the art world since 7th grade, but she didn't have an easy start! "I painted something in 7th grade and hated it! I thought to myself, 'I'm never doing this again.' But in high school I gave it another shot and loved it. From then on, I wanted to be good at painting. There was something driving me to do better."

Morgan's creativity continued to manifest itself as others recognized her talent and started to commission her work, "I painted a cow in art class while in 9th grade, and I actually sold it to Dive and Boar in Cherrydale. Then my aunt wanted me to paint her dog, then a friend wanted me to paint her dog, and it kept growing and growing until I had ten clients! I went from frustrated to loving and enjoying every minute I could paint. I think people just assume the talent was already there, but it took time and years to cultivate it."

While chatting, Morgan shared with me how much she enjoys painting animals because they're so expressive and she loves bringing their personalities to life.

"I find painting buildings to be a little boring and repetitive," she laughed. "But animals? They come to life. Some of the dogs I paint have the cutest personalities, and that shines through my art when I'm finished."

Being a Greenville native, Morgan loves her community but also wants to travel. Her dream is to move out west or travel to Europe one day.

"I’m super passionate about what I do. I really love every minute of it. It’s something I would love to do full-time one day, and I'm always open to trying new things."
